Why Choose this Training Course?

This PetroKnowledge training course is aimed at giving oil industry geologists a detailed introduction on the basin analysis of petroleum plays, with main focus on the relationship between types of sedimentary basins, tectonic settings and oil/gas reservoirs. The training course will thus provide petroleum geologists with concepts and techniques utilized for the assessment of petroleum plays, from source rocks to reservoirs and seals in different types of sedimentary basins (divergent, convergent and transform settings). Emphasis will also be put on sedimentary basin fill, basin stratigraphy, depositional sequences, environments and systems, provenance of detritus, its composition and tectonic settings, and diagenesis of reservoir facies (siliciclastics and carbonates) during basin evolution (e.g. uplift of sequences during telogenesis).

Examples of current oil/gas reservoirs from different basins in the world (e.g. siliciclastic reservoirs from North Africa and Northern to Central Kenya Rifts; Pre-salt carbonate reservoirs from West Africa/Brazil basins) will be analyzed to be potentially utilized as analogue examples for exploration studies.
