Why Choose this Training Course?

This PetroKnowledge training course provides the participant with an intensive training on the concepts of the petrophysical interpretation and well logging; in-depth understanding of the physical principles of the tools used in the logging operation and will cover the complete interpretation workflow for formation evaluation.

More specifically, by the end of this PetroKnowledge training course, the participants will understand the rock and fluid properties; be able to read and interpret well logs; analyse the measurements and run the environmental corrections for the logging tools. The course will include an extensive training for the log analysis starting with lithology identification, shale volume, porosity and water saturation.

In addition to this, the course will fully cover the quality control and quality assurance process for the raw well logs and the interpretation outputs. The participants will be able to determine the reservoir fluid contacts and free water level; the basic Core analysis studies required for reducing the uncertainty in the log interpretation outputs such as porosity, permeability and fluid saturation.

This PetroKnowledge training course will highlight:

  • Tools’ physical principles and applications in formation evaluation
  • Full Quality Control and Quality Assurance for logging tools’ measurements
  • Detecting lithology and understanding the crossplots applications in the petrophysical workflow
  • Different log analysis workflows and QC on the outputs
  • Core analysis applications in reservoir characterization
  • Practical training examples from different reservoir types

What are the Goals?

By the end of this PetroKnowledge training course, participants will learn the following:

  • Understanding the physical principles of main logging tools
  • Application of different quality control techniques to validate logging data
  • Perform full log analysis in clastics and carbonate reservoirs
  • Detecting the different reservoir fluid contacts and running pressure analysis
  • Calibration of the log analysis using different core measurements

Who is this Training Course for?

This PetroKnowledge training course is suitable to a wide range of professionals and will greatly benefit:

  • Geologists
  • Reservoir engineers
  • Geophysicists
  • Petrophysicists/Log analysts
  • Geomodellers
  • Young subsurface professionals

How will this Training Course be Presented?

This PetroKnowledge training course will utilise a variety of examples to ensure an in-depth learning and understanding for the petrophysical evaluation techniques. The daily sessions will be highly interactive and participative.

This involves regular discussions of applications as well as hands-on exercises that will be solved manually and/or using Microsoft Excel. The course will be delivered through a power point presentation. Each attendee will need a laptop for the practical examples, The participants will have access to the printed course materials and the examples they will have access to during the course.

Organisational Impact

This PetroKnowledge e training course will help the participants and enrich their knowledge over different topics related to reservoir characterization and log interpretation. By the end of the course, the participants will have covered the following in detail:

  • Full QC/QA for the logging data including LWD and Wireline
  • Detect the reservoir lithology and use the various crossplots in formation evaluation
  • Run complete petrophysical analysis for logging activities in exploration and development wells
  • Evaluate pressure data and analyse pressure plots
  • Assess the legacy data and interpret analogues for new exploration areas

Personal Impact

The participants will understand the role of the log interpretation within the exploration and development campaigns in addition to a great exposure to the quality control of the well logs, either LWD or E-line. They will be able to run complete log analysis with in-depth understanding for the workflow using various crossplots to detect the lithological variations and reservoir characteristics.
