Why Choose this Training Course?

A work performed after the original completion of the well is a minor work-over or intervention while other operations carried out in oil or gas well during its life cycle can be termed as a major work over if the completion is pulled which will change the configuration of the completion of the well.

In HPHT wells there are a lot of particularities conducting to a very expensive management of the field / reservoir due to necessity of using special equipment and tools able to withstand high pressure and temperature. The intervention in such wells calls for special metal alloys, high resistant elastomers if used as part of tool or equipment and top experienced personnel to work with.

Primarily in this PetroKnowledge training course, we are concerned with problems associated with the completion string designed particularly for HPHT wells. Production logging will help in well problem diagnosis using wireline or coiled tubing to run logging tools and all problems connected with the reservoir for adjustments and further production from the wells. In general, problems associated with the completion string can be classified into problems which arise in the tubing bore and which can be corrected through tubing operations and problems which necessitate the retrieval of the completion string from the well.

This Advanced HPHT Well Intervention Operation course will provide a good approach on the impact of interventions and completion design in maximizing field production and increasing recoverable reserves. It also emphasizes the importance of intervention methods (slickline, electrical / wire-line line and coiled tubing) all designed and manufactured to work in hostile environment with HPHT, during the whole lifetime of the well in-order to keep the well on production with profitable rates.

The PetroKnowledge training course will feature:

  • Introduction to the variable nature of well interventions in HPHT wells
  • Proper completion string design and installation in hostile conditions
  • Identify Wireline best practices and applications for HPHT wells
  • Identify Coiled Tubing demands and applications in HPHT wells
  • Appraise well control barrier philosophy, SOP and testing during well interventions in HPHT wells which are more strict and accurate

What are the Goals?

By the end of this Advanced HPHT Well Intervention Operation course, participants will be familiar on the following:

  • Variable nature of well interventions in HPHT wells
  • Describe the inherent risks and need for careful diagnostics, planning and supervision
  • Emphasize the economic implications of a work-over in terms of the need to protect the well production or injection capacity
  • List and describe the equipment and operational concepts involved in wireline and coiled tubing operations
  • Know the well control barrier principles for these types of wells
  • Identify three barriers methodology during well intervention and applicability in HPHT wells
  • Know well control barrier classification for a different type of intervention
  • Fully understand the procedures for slick line and or wire-line operation and what are the equipment and downhole tools
  • Describe well-pressure control and safety issues originated from HPHT wells and associated to slickline /wire-line
  • State the limitations on successful wire-line operation imposed by depth, hole angle and dog leg severity the high pressure and temperature

How will this Training Course be Presented?

This PetroKnowledge HPHT well intervention training course will be interactive and presented with a lot of materials escorted by a manual in PDF.

Teaching methods include several examples of actual well intervention programs in HPHT wells.

Organisational Impact

The organization will benefit by sending their employees to attend this PetroKnowledge training course, the following:

  • Reduction in the cost of the well by proper selection of production string for hostile environment created by HPHT reservoirs
  • Extending the well life and control it, achieve the optimum production using proper well interventions instead of normal rig operations prevented for this type of wells
  • Ensuring the well integrity and avoiding all risks during rig less operations in HPHT wells

Personal Impact

  • Obtain a good practice of well completion design to be considered for these HPHT wells.
  • Learn the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively and safely control a well during well intervention operations
  • Identify opportunities of well interventions method to restore or to increase well’s production
  • Know the best practices during rigless operations in HPHT wells
